Westmoreland Co. man arrested after stabbing mother while she slept

State police say a Westmoreland County man was arrested early Tuesday morning after troopers responded to a domestic disturbance and learned that the man had reportedly stabbed his own mother while she was sleeping.

Troopers say Kort Noel Eckman, 45, of Hunker, Pa, was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and other related offenses.

Police say just after 1 a.m. Tuesday, troopers were dispatched to a residence along the 600 block of Armbrust-Hecla Road in Mount Pleasant Township for an active domestic situation.

When troopers arrived at the scene, investigators say they discovered that Eckman had allegedly stabbed his mother multiple times while she was sleeping.

Police say Eckman was taken into custody and authorities began performing life-saving measures on the victim.

Troopers say the victim, age 78, was then transported to Forbes Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Authorities say Eckman is being held at the Westmoreland County Prison after being arraigned.
