Okay so I am expecting baby number two in april2012 we found out we will be adding another little girl to the family, my other daughters name is Betsy, which I love, very old fashioned but not very common in these days, so now when trying to decide on another old sounding underused name I thought of Cordelia, I wouldn’t have known the name existed if not for y&r, but do you guys think it’s a good old fashioned sounding name? If we use it her name will be Cordelia Kahlin (Kay+Lynn) Lowe, does this sound okay?
Benay November 29, 2011, 3:52pm 2I hate the name Cordelia. It just isn’t a pretty name.
Cordelia is a not appealing in the least to me.
Delia alone would have been nice.
OP. Are you basing this on Chloe naming her child?
I forget why they named her Cordelia, but I thought it was an odd choice. I think it was do to something Royal, but Royal or not I don’t like the name Cordelia.
Delia would have done, it is what they call her anyway or DeeDee.

Cane picked the name Cordelia, not Chloe.
Tambam November 29, 2011, 4:09pm 5Grace is a beautiful old fashioned name. You can call her Gracie also. If I could go back I’d name my daughter that!!!

betsysmomma, i think that is a beautiful name :*
cordelia used to be a common english name. the root of the word “cor” is latin for heart.
that was why cane named her cordelia, cause she was chloe’s heart or something like that…
Trish12 November 29, 2011, 4:15pm 7It’s sounds withcy like the charcter from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I like it then because of the charcter, not so much now. The little actress isn’t a little dark hair beauty, it would have matched her better, she’s is a blond hair beaty. I would have liked the name. Candace, Cassie, Carly, Caroline, if they were going to give her a C name like her mom.
I certainly understand your struggle w/ naming your daughter. I am expecting a baby boy in Feb and choosing a name was tough. I always thought that I would use some modern, current name that was very uncommon but with w/ older names that had family meaining and ties.
I like the name Cordelia. And think the meaning is BEAUTIFUL!

^ Well she liked it enough to keep it, so there you go.
valleycliffe I didn’t know the meaning behind Cordelia, but it is a nice sentiment and meaning behind it.
I remember something but I didn’t quite remember all the details.
Thanks for the refresher.

I like it! Cordelia means
“sea jewel” in Welsh & “warm-hearted” in Latin. Isn’t that lovely? I like distinctive names with meaning and I have known women named Cordelia.
I think names with meaning are so much better than just picking the most popular name. My given names are Frances Elizabeth and I am called Betsy by the way & think Elizabeth is one of the greatest of names. I have one child & she is named Alexandra (called Alex). Her second name is Taylor & she could go by that if she chose. Both are family names.

Hehe I was going to add it was from Buffy and Angel.
You wanted an old name and you chose one. Cordelia is a good name with roots and a history, not like Apple or some other food/object.
I like it anyways but especially knowing the meaning now. Thanks!

Moses is an old name too!! BUT…
system November 29, 2011, 5:32pm 18I like the name just fine.
SLEUTH November 29, 2011, 5:43pm 19Not a fan of the name Cordelia. I do like “unique” names, but the children are the ones have to live with the name.
Can anyone pronounce "La _ ia?
My great grandmother’s name was Jimmie Cordelia. Several of her granddaughter’s were named after her, my mom was Jimmie after her. Three of her cousins were named Cordelia for short they were called:
Just think you ought to consider the possible nicknames a child with a long name could be called.
I mean especially with younger kids. One of my cousins named her some Slade and when my little boy was about 3 he called him Slave instead, he meant no harm but had a hard time with the sharp D at the end of words. But Laura got offended until she realized it was a speech development thing.
